About $390,000 is being spent on school maintenance projects at 19 schools over the summer holidays.
Every child deserves access to great facilities, wonderful teachers, and an excellent education, and that is what we are delivering for our students.
I try and visit all local public schools in the Port Macquarie electorate at least once a year and, while they are in relatively good condition, any improvement works are always very welcome.
This program shows the NSW government’s commitment to public education and delivering local infrastructure to support communities across the state.
Our government will spend a record $747 million on school maintenance in the next four years, so every school in the state can slash their maintenance project list by December 2018.
Improving Waste Services
Port Macquarie-Hastings Council has received a $253,600 NSW government grant to fund an organic waste collection service.
The NSW government is working with councils to increase the roll-out of green-bin collection services to reduce organic and food waste.
The grant will enable Port Macquarie-Hastings Council to trial a roll-out of food and garden services to multi-unit dwellings that do not currently have the service.
These include domestic apartments and sites that share waste services, using council’s domestic waste collection or private services. The project will target aged care facilities, retirement villages, and sites such as caravan parks with permanent residents.
Our local project was one of seven to share more than $2 million under the Organics Collections grants program.
Together these projects will divert a further 6406 tonnes of food and garden waste away from landfill, to be processed into compost and mulch materials.
