Essential Energy confirmed on December 27 the transformer at Jolly Nose, Bonny Hills must be completely replaced after a storms ripped through the region between Christmas eve and Boxing Day.
It was followed by more than 200mm of rain dumped on the region in a second storm front on Boxing Day. According to Weatherzone, it is the highest December rainfall reading in Port Macquarie in 130 years.
A spokesperson for Essential Energy said boggy conditions at the transformer is making it difficult for heavy vehicles to access the site. The wait to replace the transformer could be up to 48 hours.
“Unfortunately the transformer on Jolly Nose needs to be replaced and we are sourcing heavy machinery to transport a new transformer as the boggy conditions are preventing our fleet from gaining safe access,” the spokesperson said.
“We hope to have the transformer up and running within 24 to 48 hours.”
