The Light the Night event at Port Macquarie’s Westport Park on Saturday November 18 has been hailed a success.
There were night markets, musical entertainment and raffles.
The event has been running since 2011 with Port Macquarie among many regional centres now embracing the national campaign.

Organiser Sarah Toohey hopes to reach a fundraising goal of $10,000 to help individuals with appointments, families with accommodation and travel costs and to keep food on the table when the pinch financial stress felt.
Leukaemia Foundation’s blood cancer support officer Bianca Raine said the support they offer has a three-pronged approach – for those who have survived, for those who continue to battle the disease and being there for those who have lost someone.
“The lantern represents a symbol of light and hope. That we will be there in their darkest hour,” she said.
For cancer survivors Vicki Sandiford and Ray Alaban, Light the Night represents empowerment.
“I was diagnosed four years ago and told then I had four weeks to live. I didn’t want my three sons to grow up without a dad. And here I am,” Ray said.
Vicki was diagnosed with stage four lymphoma in September 2016. In August she was declared in remission.
“You really think about things in a different way. I am so grateful to be here,” she said.
