IT was rainy and rough but you’d be hard pressed to find a face that wasn’t smiling at Flynns Beach on Saturday (November 18).

Disabled Surfers from the Hastings region hit the ocean after last month’s event was called off due to tough conditions.
A great turnout of more than 10 people, and about double that in volunteers, saw an outpouring of emotion from the surfers – all positive of course.
They braved the 16-degree water and hopped on the surfboard one at a time, being assisted out to catch themselves a wave or two. The excitement of riding back in on the whitewash was evident, and secretary Jenny Knox said it was fantastic to see.
“It’s been a while between visits to the beach. Everybody was ecstatic to get back in the water," she said.
“We didn’t have as many volunteers as usual and as always we’d love more whenever (but) everyone had a fantastic time.”
The next disabled surfing event will be a Christmas party on December 9 at Flynns Beach. The group extended their thanks to sponsors Grumpys Meat, Bels Bakery, Kenny Little Fruit and Veg, McDonalds, Richies IGA, Dominos and Rebel Sport.
