It’s a great fun day for both adults and kids starting from 9am.
The billycart races cater for 100 kph speedsters racing down Mount Pappinbarra, veterans and kids’ races, set in the relaxed village atmosphere of Beechwood.
Besides the billycart races, there are stalls, jumping castle, barbeques, and of course the hospitality of the Beechwood Hotel.
Started in 1980, the 5km adult’s course attracts entries from far and wide. It starts at 422 Pappinbarra Road and winds through sharp bends and fast straights, before flattening out, with a couple of slight uphill stretches, before the last run down to the finish line at the Beechwood Hotel.
Since there are a couple of small uphill sections, billycarts for the Classic are unique in the world, in that they are two-person. One does the driving, whilst the other – the co-driver – needs a fit pair of legs to keep the power up when gravity’s working against them.
Children do a much shorter downhill-only course down the main street of Beechwood, but since it’s only a gentle decline, they use a co-driver too.
To enter, go to www.billycartclassic.com.au or contact James Wallis on 0428851334.
The Wauchope Lions, Rotary and Apex Clubs will all be there as well as the Port Macquarie Surf Lifesaving Club to do first aid if needed, the Oxley Amateur Radio Club and the Beechwood Rural Fire Service.
There will be live music at the Beechwood Hotel. There will be a multitude of kids’ rides and a single fare will last all day.
All money raised goes to the local community groups who help on the day and the rest goes to the Beechwood Recreational Ground Trust.
