Organisers say the two events will celebrate Spring.
The homestead and vineyard was established in 1859 by the Francis family from England, all that is remaining now of the vast original property is a three-hectare site classified by the National Trust.
It is also a local Heritage site under the Port Macquarie/Hastings Council.
“Douglas Vale features the oldest timber homestead in Port Macquarie and by visiting historic Douglas Vale you can truly experience the lives of pioneer men and women, gardens, vineyard and wines from the cellar door,” a spokesperson for the homestead said.
“Douglas Vale Historic Homestead and Vineyard is a totally volunteer run working vineyard and homestead and is unique in Australia and possibly the southern hemisphere and a very important part of Port Macquarie’s history.
“All funds raised are used for the continuing restoration and maintenance of this historic property so don’t miss the opportunity of visiting Douglas Vale Garage Sale Open Day on Saturday, October 21 and not only will you be enjoying an entertaining and fun filled day, you will also be assisting to provide much needed funds to continually restore and maintain Port Macquarie’s very own unique treasure.”
The event is from 9.30am until 2.30pm.
Alongside delicious food and wine, guided tours of the property, the open day and garage sale trail will feature a program of live entertainment.
Sing Australia starts off the proceedings with their entertaining melodies. This group started in 2002 with only twelve members and now has over one hundred. It meets on a Monday night and is well known for providing much loved entertainment to a range of organisations such as nursing homes, retirement villages, community events, social clubs and charity concerts.
The Bells of Haven was formed in 2012 with a founding group of seven members, all who could read music and play other instruments. The members had to raise money to buy their own set of handbells which are very expensive to purchase. Their set of three octaves of Schulmerich bells cost $14,000 in total. This was funded by a grant for the Kendall Op Shop. There is now a membership of ten and they enjoy sharing their talent at venues spaning from Port Macquarie to Foster.
Kristina Joy and the Z Chords will feature next on the program. Led by Kristina Joy, the Z Chords are a group of enthusiastic and talented singers and ukulele players who are keen to share their love of music and performance with their audiences. Enjoy a fast- paced mystery tour of popular music. You may even want to sing along with them.
The Port Macquarie Bush Poet’s Society is an organisation of talented poets and performers who meet on the 2nd and the 4th Sunday of the month at the Senior Citizens Hall in Munster street, Port Macquarie. They love sharing their wealth of poetry with others.
Spiral Time comprises of Tom McIlveen and Susan Ashton, who have been performing together for over a year. Tom is an avid poetry performer as well a singer. He plays guitar and accompanies Susan in a variety of songs including Australian Bush ballads and more contemporary tunes.
The Hastings Koala Orchestra was formed in 1988 and includes people of all ages coming together to play music passionately and to achieve their dreams. A big highlight of their orchestral year is the annual tour of Japan, which includes a major concert with the Handa Brass Band in Port Macquarie’s Sister City.
The Koalas have toured Japan at least seventeen times, performing in several major cities. They come together with the Sing Australia Choir to present the Black and White Charity Concert and the Christmas Pageant each year.
