It is the second serious crash on the Pacific Highway this week marking a terrible start to the school holidays on our roads.
Shortly after 11am on Thursday, September 28 a family of seven were heading north on the Pacific Highway when a van being driven by a man, with a male passenger, pulled out from the verge.
It appears the vehicle carrying the family swerved and rolled several times.
A 16-year-old girl was thrown from the vehicle and died at the scene while the female driver suffered head injuries and was taken to John Hunter Hospital for treatment.
The remaining family members have also been taken to both John Hunter and Port Macquarie Hospitals for treatment to injuries that are not considered life threatening.
The driver of the van was taken to Port Macquarie Base Hospital for mandatory tests.
A crime scene was created at the crash site as officers from Mid North Coast Crash Investigation Unit conduct further inquiries.
It is the second serious crash on the Pacific Highway just days into the school holidays.
A woman lost her life after a four car crash near Telegraph Point on September 26.
Prior to that, four trucks were involved in a pile-up near the same location on September 7.
NSW Police are urging everyone to drive according to the road conditions after an horrific start to the holidays.
Double demerit points will be in force over the October long weekend.
Speed continues to be the biggest killer on our roads, contributing to about 40 per cent of all road deaths in NSW last year, while 83 people died because they were too tired to drive.
