It is a simple, but powerfully poignant way to remember those who have lost their lives to breast cancer.
The Port Macquarie Hastings Breast Support Group’s Judith Hutchesson said Friday’s Mini Field of Women at the Port Macquarie Library was a success.
The event will mark the group's 14th anniversary.
Mrs Hutchesson, along with guests Port Macquarie MP Leslie Williams and deputy mayor Lisa Intemann cut a celebratory cake.
Mrs Williams praised the efforts of the local support group.
“Never underestimate the role you play in the community,” she said.
“It is people like you in support groups like this that helps them get through their personal battles.
“Congratulations to you all, particularly Judith, who has been leading this group for the last 10 years.
“Your work is absolutely critical.”
Visually impaired life coach, Kathryn Stephens related her story of overcoming a significant motor vehicle accident 26 years ago.
Accompanied by her guide dog Gulliver, Ms Stephens told the morning tea it is possible to overcome anything.
“I chose to hold onto as much of my independence as I could, despite being visually impaired,” she said.
“And you can also overcome your own battles with breast cancer.”
