But according to organiser Jamie Vogele, it is all dependent on if he can get a lift.
English moved to Newcastle at the start of the year and the addition of Laura Renshaw to Sunday’s marathon could be enough to sway him to return again to the Hastings.
As part of the Port Macquarie Mountain Bike Festival, the marathon will be ridden on Sunday after the cross-country event on Saturday.
Vogele said the Bago Marathon was a standalone event last year, but it will be part of the festival this year.
He anticipated about 60 riders to participate in the 50-kilometre loop which starts at 8am and riders could expect a challenging course.
“From what other people have said, it’s one of the hardest marathon courses in Australia,” he said.
“And there aren’t too many of them left because there are less and less people doing them.
“This one is a point-to-point event.”
The views over the Bago Bluff are like none other anywhere in the country.
Vogele won’t participate in the marathon, but was hopeful of competing next year as he continues the search for volunteers.
“I’m struggling to get volunteers and with the size of the event like this one we really need more,” he said.
