Retained firefighters from more than 20 brigades from as far afield as Armidale, Bega, Dubbo, Goonellabah, Merrylands, Nowra and Ulladulla converged on Port Macquarie to take part in the championships.
They were joined by crack Rural Fire Service crews from Kootingal, Tamworth and Wadalba, who made a strong showing on behalf of their volunteer colleagues.
FRNSW Commissioner, Paul Baxter QSO has ranked the port Macquarie reginal event as one of the best yet with a record-breaking number of crews entering from across the state.
He said despite the challenging weather conditions over the two days on Westport Park, crews stepped up and put their skills and knowledge to the test.
“It’s been absolutely fantastic here in Port Macquarie,” Commissioner Baxter said at the close of competition on Sunday, August 20.
“Port Macquarie is one of the favourite destinations of our teams and to have 26 competing this weekend has been great for this event.
“They are a fantastic group of people and this competition not only hones their skills but brings with it camaraderie as the brigades come together.
“Some of the teams will now go on to the Australasian competition in New Zealand in November.”
