Donovan will be joined in the squad alongside fellow Group 3 rugby league junior players Harry Wesley and Ryan Long (both from Taree Panthers).
The trio have travelled to Newcastle each week to take part in the junior Knights pathway program and were also members of this year’s successful Knights Chargers under 15s team.
The Group 3 area has been a great source of talent for the Knights over the years, going back to the club’s foundation season in 1988 when David Boyd was a member of the club’s first grade team.
Boyd started playing rugby league with Chatham Cundle before moving into grade with Taree United.
This year Group 3 players Harry Croker, Mitch Black and Max Buderus were members of the Knights premiership-winning Harold Matthews (under-16) team, with Croker going onto represent NSW under 16s against Queensland.
Croker’s brother, Matt, played in the SG Ball (under 18s) team and is now a member of the club’s under 20s team.
