The region is in the path of a complex low pressure system off the southern Tasman Sea which is generating broad area of vigorous winds from the SSW of up to 40kmh over coastal New South Wales and the adjacent ocean, leading to rough seas and an increasing southerly swell.
The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a damaging sruf warning with waves exceeding five metres in the surf zone. This may cause damage and coastal erosion between Ulladulla and Port Macquarie until Sunday (August 20) afternoon. Sections of coast exposed to the south are more at risk.
Beach conditions in these areas are likely to be dangerous and people should stay well away from the surf and surf-exposed areas.
A hazardous surf warning is also current for the entire NSW coast.
Port Macquarie’s SES unit has urged residents to secure any loose items around the house.
“Bring inside light weight garden chairs/furniture, kiddies bikes and peg down trampolines. Too often trampolines are turned into lethal weapons by strong gusts.”
If you have to park outside, park away from trees and fences.
