Firstly, Peta, congratulations and best wishes on delivering on your passion for this region.
I noted the priorities in your campaign, but felt most candidates failed to properly tackle what many consider ‘the’ key missing piece of infrastructure needed in this area.
In particular, a link road between Lake Innes and Lighthouse.
The failure to deliver this critically overlooked piece of infrastructure gets more important by the day, as further development compounds the problem.
The current out-of-the-way journey forces huge volumes of unwanted traffic through the Industrial area, adding to unnecessary gridlock around the hospital and university areas.
There has been talk, there have been studies and there have been various levels of planning.
It is the no-brainer solution to our burgeoning traffic problems (brought about by a succession of poor planning decisions), and can have negligible impact on the environment by running adjacent to existing development.
In fact, the environment would benefit from the freeing of the daily gridlock. It is a very real problem with a very real solution.
It is a fundamental issue that has been fobbed off for too long, and yet we bizarrely watch council find the time and resources to do a disruptive, unnecessary and expensive ‘make over’ of the Town Green.
Thank you Peta.
Can you please advise on where you stand on this long-overdue and critical solution to our traffic woes.
Brian Johnson,
Port Macquarie
