“I was anticipating better preference flows but it just didn’t happen,” he said.
Cr Turner believes the number of first preference votes secured by sitting councillors shows the council is doing a good job.
Another by-election would have been needed if a sitting councillor was elected.
“The message we got loud and clear at the polling booths was people didn’t want to come back to a second by-election,” he said.
Deputy mayor Cr Lisa Intemann said she was disappointed not to be elected as she was really keen to get into the job and make some constructive changes.
“I will continue working towards those ends as a councillor,” she said.
Cr Intemann said despite anything that was said during the campaign, we actually have a good council.
She said subtle change was needed in how the parts of the council worked together.
Cr Sharon Griffiths said she enjoyed going through the democratic process.
“I got good feedback from everyone in the community,” Cr Griffiths said.
She said it was an opportunity to find out about people’s priorities and interests.
“I enjoyed the forums and answering a lot of questions, Cr Griffiths said.
“It was an opportunity to present my skills and ability to add value to council.”
Lauren Edwards, who stood for The Greens, was the only candidate to represent a political party.
She gave a very big thank you for the support and interest shown in The Greens.
“More people voted Green this election than the previous and we managed to get a number of important issues on the radar,” Ms Edwards said.
“The election resulted in a new mayor who was not a current councillor so there will be no further by-election triggered to fill a councillor vacancy this year.
“As always, I will continue to search for opportunities to represent our community, to work for improvement and help create a sustainable future for us all.”
Cr Turner, Cr Intemann and Cr Griffiths continue as councillors.
