The five mayoral hopefuls have their final say ahead of the election day.
Saturday, July 29 is election day when voters across the local government area go the polls in the mayoral by-election.
Sharon Griffiths
As a resident and business person for over 30 years I have experienced the growth of our area. This growth has not been met with the appropriate level of investment in infrastructure due to past poor management and as a result, a backlog of works.
For our area to improve, substantial investment in infrastructure is required, beginning with upgrade to roads which is the number one priority for our community.
My skills in business are coupled with financial and councillor experience.
I am solutions focused with a can-do attitude and proven track record in supporting community-driven initiatives. I believe in savings not rate rises.
I will focus on delivering the projects and services the community actually want rather than what the council thinks they should have.
- Sharon Griffiths
With $250 million invested it is time to spend this money on infrastructure projects, at a time when interest rates are low and costs are escalating.
Expenditure should align with asset management plans and community priorities, with data to show the benefit or prove the positive value to proceeding with projects.
I will focus on delivering the projects and services the community actually want rather than what the council thinks they should have.
In developing priorities, strategy and policy, feedback from the community should be considered at the earliest time.
I’m willing to provide the direction and leadership required to ensure our whole local government area benefits from future council decisions.
Lisa Intemann
I am a Wauchope resident, mother and grandmother and originally a scientist.
I have good long-standing connections in the community, good relations with sitting councillors, the general manager and local MPs, and have no interests conflicting with my council responsibilities.
As councillor of 17 years, two years deputy mayor and now 12 weeks acting mayor, through all that time I have been closely involved across the whole range of council functions.
We don’t need change for the sake of it, but a mayor with enough experience to know what needs changing next in council and how to change it.
- Lisa Intemann
I offer my full time commitment to the position plus demonstrated experience and the knowledge to deliver as council’s leader from the start.
There’s a lot that’s good about our council, like delivering $200 million in works in four years - an achievement unmatched by any council of similar size.
We don’t need change for the sake of it, but a mayor with enough experience to know what needs changing next in council and how to change it.
As mayor I will be truthful and open. I will build up the culture of teamwork and efficiency in council, to deliver more for the community without resorting to rate rise.
Lauren Edwards
Vote 1 Lauren Edwards if you wish to see, applied to all council decision making, ecological sustainability, social justice and real grassroots democracy that is achieved through genuine community consultation.
Vote 1 Lauren Edwards if you want council to seek out, listen to and determine the needs of the full cross-section of our community.
Vote 1 Lauren Edwards for the Greens this Saturday July 29 if you believe that we should be thinking both locally and globally to inform how we act at our local level.

Vote 1 Lauren Edwards if you want to see a sustainability master plan for our Hastings region and to manage growth and development without losing our precious koala population, our biodiversity or our charm.

Peta Pinson
Over the campaign I have spoken with many people who have voiced their dissatisfaction with council.
Feedback has also been vocal that people do not want the additional cost and inconvenience of another by-election should a sitting councillor be elected into the position of mayor.
I say let’s just get on with the business of providing infrastructure and services.
I want to see a council that is not about ‘business as usual’ but about business done better.
- Peta Pinson
For far too long our community has been promised key infrastructure or projects, and promised that we are being listened to but unfortunately, the results and outcomes haven’t kept pace with these empty promises.
We have a cash stockpile of over $250 million because our council has only delivered roughly half of what it said it would.
I want to see a council that is not about ‘business as usual’ but about business done better. I want council to be accountable for its promises and through the general manager I will ensure we will deliver.
I will NOT be voting for future rate rises and I will work with the state and federal members to seek support for key projects.
Rob Turner
I am not standing for mayor on a whim. I've always been here for the long-haul.
I know it takes years to be an effective councillor and even longer before you're ready to be the voice of one of the biggest and fastest growing regions in NSW.
My vision for our future is backed by years of experience in key council portfolios – Economic and Cultural Development, Planning, and Environmental Sustainability.
I have led the business chamber and hospital board, and I've worked hard for over 25 years to enrich our community through my hands-on involvement in health, arts, culture and education.
I'll oppose special rate levies. Instead, I'll lead a leaner, financially responsible and united council that works smarter to:

- Rob Turner
– Fast-track better road systems.
– Deliver critical infrastructure projects.
– Encourage business growth and employment.
– Provide sporting, cultural and recreational facilities for a growing community.
No-one wanted this by-election.
Like you, I'd rather not have to cop the cost and inconvenience of a second one.
But I also don't believe the community can afford the long term cost of an inexperienced mayor.
I believe you have a clear choice this Saturday: I'm asking you to vote for me, Rob Turner for mayor.
