Nationals Member for Cowper Luke Hartsuyker met with Luke to discuss his sporting goals and how this Local Sporting Champions grant of $500 helped him compete at the recent State Age Championship.
“Luke is a committed young man. He trains 8 sessions a week at the Port Macquarie pool regardless of the weather,” Mr Hartsuyker said.
“I commend his dedication and these Local Sporting Champion grants are all about awarding young people who are dedicated to their sport but need a bit of help covering the travel costs to their next big competition.
“Like all great sportspeople, Luke’s not focussed on blitzing his competitors because he’s focussed on beating his personal best and improving himself.
“I wish Luke all the best with his upcoming competitions and look forward to the day that we see him representing Port Macquarie at the Commonwealth or Olympic Games.”
Luke’s recent results, as he has competed at Swimming NSW’s Country Championships in Sydney last year and won 3 gold, 3 silver and 2 bronze medals and broke the 50 metre breaststroke record.
Local Sporting Champion Grants are available to 12-18 year old sportspeople who are competing at an endorsed state, national or international sporting competition.
