The Hastings Haven District of the Cake and Sugar Arts of NSW held their annual demonstration at the Tenison Wood centre in Lochinvar Place on Saturday July 1 and the audience were enthralled.
The aptly named Allison Baker is secretary of the group which meets every month and once a year, they invite artists from other areas to show off skills their members want to see.
“That also attracts neighbouring clubs, so we’ve got people from Sydney, Taree and Kempsey here today,” said Allison, who’s always been interested in cake decorating.
“I was keen to learn the craft and the skills. This, and cupcakes and biscuits and all sorts of edible art are getting more popular. I find it a great outlet. I did art at school and cake decorating is an extension of something I enjoy,” she added.
Claire Loveday who’s president of the club has been decorating cakes and making sugar creations for five years.
“I wanted to do my Mum’s 70th birthday cake and it all just went a bit mad. It’s a bit addictive,” said Claire, who gets inspiration from the internet and demonstration days.
