Last year’s premiers will be smarting from a surprise first-round loss to Port Saints last weekend while Wauchope’s return to the Football Mid North Coast Premier League was far from ideal.
Coach Terry Burn welcomes the challenge his men will face at Boronia Park although he knows they must be better defensively.
“The problems we had last week are not the type of things that can be fixed in a week,” he said.
“We’re just working on making fewer mistakes because you get punished in this competition.”
Burn has coached for a long time and realises there is no point being daunted by the task they face.
He just wants his team to gradually improve.
“If we’re still making the same mistakes in six to eight weeks we will then have a problem,” he said.
“But first things’ first – we have to start putting the ball in the back of the net.”
