Minister for Emergency Services Troy Grant joined Leslie Williams MP for a tour of the Port Macquarie Marine Rescue Unit at Westport Park.
Mr Grant said $44,000 had been allocated to MRNSW under the Emergency Volunteer Support Scheme, a joint Commonwealth-State Government program to assist with the recruitment, retention and training of emergency services volunteers.
The Leadership Conference will be held at Rydges Port Macquarie on the Hastings River front on September 16 and 17.
Mrs Williams said the event would bring more than 100 delegates, including 90 volunteers, to Port Macquarie in September.
“This is the first Marine Rescue NSW Leadership Conference to be held outside Sydney, which is a tremendous vote of confidence in our city’s strength as a destination for tourism, conferences and events,” she said.
“Our community is well aware of the valuable, life-saving work of the volunteers from our local MRNSW units at Port Macquarie, Camden Haven and Crowdy Harrington. It will be a pleasure to welcome their colleagues from further afield to our region.
“The conference will bring together the organisation’s leadership, including the Unit Commanders and Deputy Unit Commanders from the 45 MRNSW units, along with MRNSW Directors and staff.
“Members who have stepped up to take on the responsibility of leading their local units will have the chance to come together to share their volunteer and operational experience and knowledge.”
Mrs Williams said she looked forward to welcoming the delegates to Port Macquarie later this year.
