Fifteen hundred Ulyssians have already signed up for the annual meeting in Wauchope next month.
And the first motorcycle-friendly town in New South Wales is getting ready to welcome members of this social club for motorcyclists over the age of 40.
This will be the first time the event has been held here in Wauchope and Showground is the venue for the men and woman whose motto is “Grow Old Disgracefully”.
The Wauchope Showground is the main venue. The hundreds of Ulyssians who’ll be camping there can roll out of bed and the traders, motorcycle manufacturers and food are all in walking distance.
The RV site is Timbertown Heritage Theme Park, Wauchope’s two motels are fully booked, some people are staying at Breckenridge Farm and the rest will stay in Port Macquarie.
Event secretary Margot Russell says the excitement is building.
“The Tuesday night meet and greet dinner at Wauchope Showground on May 23 has the theme of Convicts and Wenches,” she said.
On Saturday night, there’s a Governors’ Dinner in costume and MPs Leslie Williams and Melinda Pavey will be there as well as Mayor Peter Besseling.
Hastings Co-op who are one of the event’s main sponsors are taking a table, as are Wauchope Travel, who have put together all the tours for Ulyssians who want to explore this area.
Catering in the big tent will be by XS Foods.
On Thursday May 25, there will be a traders open day at Wauchope Showground, where members of the public can come and look at the latest in motorcycles and gear, and have something to eat.
And on Friday night, May 26, Wauchope’s Hastings Street will have pop-up shops and traders with stalls, entertainment and food and other businesses in the town will open late.
Event organisers are delighted that Port Macquarie Hastings Council have approved the Grand Parade on Saturday May 27.
It will start at Town Beach and go up Pacific Drive to John Downes Reserve, then do a U-turn and come back into Short Street, Kooloonbung Creek and into Westport Park.
The Mayor will then welcome the Ulysses Club to the area.
