That’s the message that Hastings Rotaract president Katie Hall and communications officer Jack Wilson want the young demographic of the Hastings to know.
Hastings Rotaract (Rotary in Action) is a club where like minded young people can make a difference within the community. The club was formed in July 2016.
Rotary Club of Port Macquarie Sunrise is the main sponsor club of Hastings Rotaract.
Ms Hall said the youth directors of the club have been very supportive of Hastings Rotaract and have provided guidance with invoicing, meetings and events.
Meetings are held at Charles Sturt University or at one of the Port Macquarie beaches in summer.
Members meet each week for about an hour.
Ms Hall believes ‘if your heart is in it then it’s not a chore’.
“I want to be able to help the community grow,” she said.
“If you have a passion for that then turning up for a meeting once a week is nothing.”
Mr Wilson said the club is very social and events are organised around the concept of what the young demographic would enjoy.
A Glow in the Dark Zumba Party was organised by the club in partnership with Make a Difference on March 31.
The event is to help fundraise for an Orange Sky Laundry van for the homeless community.
The core members of Hastings Rotaract came together after attending the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA).
The awards is an intensive leadership event organised by Rotary clubs and districts where people develop leadership skills.
Hastings Rotaract is open to anyone who would like to create positive change in the community.
The club membership is targeted for people who are aged between 18-years-old and 35-years-old. However Ms Hall said the age bracket is not strict.
