Cooper West and Samuel Edmonds took out silver and bronze medals at Sydney Olympic Park a few weeks ago.
Edmonds achieved a personal best in the high jump, while West finished with a silver and a bronze in the 70-metre and 200-metre sprints.
Club captain Gavin Thompson was pleased with the performances of not only West and Edmonds, but the entire Port Macquarie team.
“We took a team of 25 away and claimed three medals while everybody else achieved personal bests,” he said.
“It was an eight centimetre personal best for Sam; he jumped one metre 69 and Cooper got bronze in the 70-metres for the under-10s and a silver in the 200-metres.”
Edmonds made the national finals a couple of years ago, but it was his first medal for Little Athletics.
“These two boys put in a lot of training,” Thompson said.
“We train twice a week plus we have our competition night on Friday. They know you’ve got to put in.”
He was confident the club was headed in the right direction.
“We get 20 to 30 kids to training every week,” he said.
“This year we didn’t go away with any expectations at all, but we said to the kids top 10s would be a good performance and most of them got within those ranges.
“The standard was pretty good so for the boys to come away with PB’s in the conditions was a great effort.”
