Ms Crutcher was nominated by a teacher from her Diploma of Community Services, which she finished in October 2016.
Not long after, April began working with the team at HDRC Services in a Disability Support Worker role, which sees her working mostly one on one with indigenous clients.
“I’ve learnt so much on the job since starting in October; and it’s very self-rewarding knowing that my work here is helping others,” Ms Crutcher said.
The Port Macquarie TAFE Awards of Excellence ceremony featured Industry Student Awards and the major awards of Student of the Year and Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander Student of the Year.
Ms Crutcher is now able to nominate for the Regional TAFE Awards, with the ceremony to take place in May in Coffs Harbour.
Further advancement would see Ms Crutcher potentially reach the NSW and then National award ceremonies.
“It’s a very exciting time for April and the HDRC team are very proud of her achievements. We all wish her the best of luck in the Regional Awards,” HDRC Manager Dementia and Aged Support Services, Julie Dunn said.
During her studies at TAFE April also completed a Certificate II in Ausland and is currently undertaking a Bachelor of Social Work through Charles Sturt University.
HDRC Services are now under the newly merged Omnicare Alliance.
