Lake Cathie Bowling and Recreation Club is hosting a full day of events on Saturday January 21 from 11am, kicking off with the XXXX Tinnie Races on the boat ramp side of the lake.
Entry forms are available from the club and the race is open to junior and senior paddlers. Gather your team of four, don a costume, a life jacket and sunscreen and bring your family and friends to cheer.
The post-race presentation of prizes will be held at the club, along with plenty of Australia Day-themed activities, food and competitions. A barbecue, stew and damper, pies and sausage rolls will feed the hungry crowd, the children and adults can get involved in face painting, the pie eating competition and tug-o-war.
There will be a show and shine car show, raffle and live music from Rusty Nails.
On Australia Day, January 26, at the Laurieton United Services Club from 2pm a family fun day will be held with rides, games, the famous pavlova-eating contest, music and more.
At 5pm, a boat race of an unusual kind will begin. Business houses, sporting groups, community organisations, friends and families are invited to build a land-boat and race around a course near the Camden Haven River foreshore.
The prize money for the winner and runner up of the boat race will be split between their choice of charity.
