The pool opening date will be confirmed after this, pending a satisfactory outcome.
The council says it thanks the community for their patience as these major structural works are completed, and looks forward to providing a facility that better meets the needs of the community.
The upgrade of Wauchope Memorial Olympic Pool is a key project within the council’s adopted Recreation Action Plan. The pool was aging, and with increasing numbers of users, big improvements were necessary.
These include repairs to the 50-metre pool and toddler pool, an upgrade to the wet deck system, revamping the 3m diving board, renewing the concrete surround and paths and a new pool heating and filtration system.
A new access-friendly entry ramp has been built for people with mobility issues. As well as the upgrade, council got an extra $1.5 million in funding from the federal government for a shaded children’s outdoor water play area and tiered grandstand.
