More than 40 boats are expected to converge on the Hastings and head out to sea for the eight-day event.
Tournament co-ordinator Janeck Kaczorowski said he was expecting this year’s event to be bigger than last year.
“Last year there were about 42 boats and we’re expecting there to be about 40 again this year,” he said.
“It’s more than just the fishermen who get a lot out of the event, everyone enjoys the Port Macquarie hospitality.”
Kaczorowski was looking forward to running the event for another year.
“There has already been a lot of interest from up and down the coast,” he said.
All keen fishermen will take to the ocean off Port Macquarie in the hope of landing the biggest marlin.
There will be a $5000 cash prize for the heaviest marlin weighing over 150 kilograms.
Most fish caught are tagged and released.
