RFS public liaison officer Stuart Robb said the current weather leading into December indicates that it could be a busy fire season as there hasn’t been a lot of rain in November for the Port Macquarie-Hastings region.
“This summer period is not looking as favourable as this time last year,” he said.
According to the RFS for the months December through to February days and nights are likely to be warmer than average for the state of NSW.
There is a particularly high chance of summer having a warm start for most, with much of Australia likely to see warmer daytime temperatures in December.
Mr Robb said it’s important for people to put a survival plan into action.
He encourages people to discuss what to do if a bushfire threatens their property.
The RFS also wants people to be aware of the bush fire alert levels in their area.
People can download a NSW RFS app called ‘Fires Near me’ to keep track of the alert level.
In a bush fire, the RFS stresses that it’s important that people stay up to date on conditions.
There are simple things people can do around the home to prepare for the bush fire season, like keeping the grass low and having a cleared area around the home.
