Not only do we see grand final day land on the first but trials for the North Coast Academy of Sport’s (NCAS) inaugural AFL program are running over the weekend of October 8 and 9.
AFL NSW/ACT and NCAS are joining forces to deliver Australia’s favourite code to local aspiring male and female athletes.
AFL regional manager Northern NSW Simon Smyth is excited to be involved with the program this summer where he will be able to witness local players develop.
“The selected athletes will learn so much about their game, and what it takes to make it to the next level,” he said.
“With the AFL National Women’s League commencing in 2017, I am also thrilled that female athletes will be involved in our program, and we want to provide these athletes with every opportunity for them to reach the elite level.
“I have single-handedly seen how academy of sport programs can prepare athletes for the upcoming season, and what players have been able to achieve after participating in academy of sport programs.
“I can’t wait to see how our North Coast athletes progress.”
The NCAS AFL program will have a holistic approach so young male and female footballers become better athletes.
Selected athletes will participate in technical skill development, game sense training, fitness testing and theoretical knowledge to ensure they improve all aspects of their game.
Ancillary education modules including nutrition, psychology, strength and conditioning are also delivered through the program.
With the program rolled out between Coffs Harbour and Port Macquarie, the academy has opened applications for male athletes aged 12-14 years in 2016 and female athletes aged under 16 years in 2016.
