At least that is the belief of Mid Coast Martial Arts Academy master instructor, Shihan Michael Fardell.
Recently a group of Port Macquarie students, aged from under seven up to 64, have qualified for the NSW State Titles.
Port Macquarie held a qualifying round of the Australia martial arts championships and had just over 20 students enter.
All of them placed and qualified for the state titles on September 9. From there they can qualify for the national titles which are held in Sydney in December.
“It’s not about teaching kids how to be fighters, but teaching them confidence, self discipline and sportsmanship which is what martial arts promotes,” he said.
“I’m very proud of all of the students, who have stepped up and demonstrated their discipline.
“They competed gracefully to earn a spot at the NSW State Titles and showed a lot of great sportsmanship.”
