Water restrictions are imposed according to set trigger levels.
Port Macquarie-Hastings Council has adopted revised water restriction trigger levels and the 2014 uniform regional water restrictions.
Cr Lisa Intemann said this was a big step forward in terms of consistency and clarity.
She said the council was on the same footing as other Mid-North Coast councils and the decision also changed the point at which the first restriction went into place.
The initial water restriction trigger point has been changed from 80 per cent to 70 per cent of combined storage in Port Macquarie and Cowarra dams.
Water conservation measures are retained to help maintain water storage volumes.

Water conservation measures, a practice followed in the Hastings for years, has been included regionally for the first time.

The general manager also has the power to exercise discretion when lifting water restrictions, considering the potential for pumping from the Hastings River and combined storage levels.
