It was a must-win game for the Blues, in order to keep their semi-finals hopes alive.
Oldbar posted first points when they crossed out wide through center Jake Wheeler.
The Blues were soon to level up, when fullback Sam Watts went cruising down the field for a forty meter individual effort.
Oldbar were fighting hard to keep themselves in the match, always staying within a try’s reach of the lead.
However, the Blues kept one step ahead throughout the game.
Another young Blues player was blooded in First grade this week, and under 18's 5/8 Tristan Scott didn't disappoint in his debut on the wing. The young gun picked up 2 tries for his efforts.
The goal kicking of Sam Watts also helped the Blues along, with a near perfect five from six.
The final score being 34 - 22.
Reserve grade were unlucky to go down by six points 26 - 20, as they held the lead for a majority of the game.
The under 18's had a dominant win in their clash, with the Pirates taking the match out 42 - 16.
The win comes off the back of a couple of losses to the Blues as they look to get their season back on track.
In the league tag, the girls were brought down in the final minute by an Oldbar field goal to lose the match 19- 18.
After getting themselves back into the game to lock the scores up at 18 all, a draw seemed likely for the game, but, with only a minute remaining on the clock, the Pirates kicked a dramatic field goal which saw the ball bounce off the crossbar, then hit the upright and just scrape through to seal the victory for Oldbar.
The Blues will now travel to Forster on Saturday to take on the Hawks, with league tag kicking off at 11.30.
Also the very best of luck to our three league tag rep players - Kristy Roods, Emily Lester and Larissa Ward - who travel to Cessnock this Saturday to play in the country final for the East Coast Dolphins.
