The upgrade to Hastings River Drive commenced in October 2015.
The $6 million upgrade was fully funded by Port Macquarie-Hastings Council.
Works progress: Hastings River Drive has been under construction since October 2015 and is due to re-open to traffic on Thursday.
This key local road has an average of 14,000 vehicle movements per day, and road users will benefit from reduced congestion, improved traffic flow and safety improvements. Pedestrian access and safety has also been significantly improved.
The upgrade includes:
- Dual lanes between Gordon Streets through to Aston Street
- New road cycleways
- Shared footpaths and pedestrian refuges at three points
- A new pedestrian and cycle refuge at Park Street
- Partial widening of Garden Crescent near the intersection with Hastings River Drive
- Lighting upgrades
- Improved kerb and guttering
- Improved drainage
- New bus stops
- Service relocations and landscaping
