I have always questioned this levy as nonsensical (after all, rural residents deal with their own waste - council has nothing to do with it).
I have long been aware that this levy (about $500,000 a year for council) is simply a way to raise money from rural residents which is then spent in Port Macquarie on roads and beautification projects.
PMHC cite a Hepatitis A outbreak in Wallis Lake in 1997 as justification for the rate rise. That was almost 20 years ago.
This is a blatant rort by PMHC, seeking silent ways to increase funding. Rural residents suffer terrible roads, ailing bridges, lack of services (waste removal etc) and look after waterways, landscape and keep the Hastings growing, green and lush.
Please register your disgust at these proposed changes to an already sneaky septic fee by emailing council@pmhc.nsw.gov.au or by commenting on the proposed fees on council’s website.
