The 35-year-old man had been at the Walcha Races on Friday and then went back to the town's bowling club for an after party, police said.
He was approached on the dance floor by officers who took him to the rear of the venue.
They were worried he might run away, so they handcuffed him before searching his person and pockets.
They allegedly found numerous plastic resealable bags containing a total of 28 pills, which he told them he'd found on the ground.
He was taken to Walcha Police Station and charged with supplying and possessing an illicit drug.
He was granted bail to appear at Walcha Local Court next Tuesday.
