Police said a smaller garbage truck was usually used on the Pembrooke route, however, it was too late to avoid impact when the driver realised the larger truck was too high and attempted to brake.
Police and Rural Fire Service crews from Wauchope and Pembrooke helped divert traffic and Railcorp engineers and a tow truck arrived at the scene at 12pm.
It was unclear how long it would take to move the vehicle from under the bridge.
