On Saturday, Upper House MP Courtney Houssos and Country Labor's Kristy Quill met with residents in Port Macquarie.
Ms Quill said the issues raised by the residents involved concerns about a lack of transparency.
"They were upset and angered by the fact the community was not consulted and they see that as a really big issue," she said.
"The fact people are losing such a valuable piece of public land; once it's gone it's gone forever if the development goes ahead."
In July, Supermarket giant Woolworths was announced as the preferred candidate to buy the Crown Land site after an expression of interest (EOI) process.
"There has been a notice of motion to put a pause on the sale, but the minister said on Tuesday the sale has not gone through yet. Crown Lands still owns the space," Ms Quill said.
In just over three weeks more than 10,000 signatures have been placed on a petition to stop the sale.
"It's amazing what can happen when the community all work together on such an important issue," Ms Quill said.
Ms Quill will head to Sydney next week to continue to ask further questions about the issue.
"I plan to take those concerns to parliament next Monday and we'll continue to collect signatures this week. The community support is amazing and the anger is growing; it's not receding," she said. "What people can do now is continue to write letters to the government and to Leslie Williams to let them know they're not happy with what's going on. The more people that do that the better."
"We're still waiting for it to reach the Upper House, but it's on the list of things to be discussed. It just remains to be seen how long it will take."
