The Faith Friends Ministry has answered the prayers of sporting lovers and decided to bring an indoor sports centre to town.
The Ark Indoor Centre is expected to be operating out of the former Tender Centre on Lake Road some time in September.
Although it borrows its name from a religious background and some of the interior will be modelled around the theme of an ark, the divine influence will stop there.
Gerret Wilken from the Faith Friends Ministry said it will be run as a proper business.
He said the facility will have two full sized courts, a viewing area and will be state of the art.
“It will provide kids and people in Port with another sporting option,” he said.
“It won’t just be indoor cricket either, there will be a multitude of sports to play including bubble soccer.”
The indoor centre provides Port Macquarie with yet another state of the art sporting facility.
One of the organisers Craig Huender said they were looking to create an experience rather than just a sport.
“We want to provide something that’s unique,” he said.
“We don’t want to create something where people just come in, play and go home.
“There will be action cameras that will record players that can be uploaded to the internet and scores as they happen will be able to be uploaded straight to the website.”
At first the focus will be on indoor cricket and depending on demand, soccer, netball and volleyball will be considered.
Mr Huender said the centre will provide a range of services other than just competition games.
“There will be a focus on developing younger players so we will have professional coaching available on some afternoons,” he said.
“Teams will be able to use the centre for training and schools will be able to use it for their sport days.”
In another plus for the town Mr Huender said the centre will provide about 15 employment opportunities.
