The Ross River Retreat 100km east of Alice Springs in the MacDonnell Ranges ranges hosted around 70 white fellas and 50 indigenous locals.
The 120-strong choir, led by Rachel Hore (Canberra) and Morris Stuart (Melbourne), shared four days making harmonic sounds to raise spirits, heal the soul and entertain the local wildlife.
Around 50 women from five local areas made the journey to join the spirit of song, including a group of Wauchope locals who are members of the Bella Bago Choir.
The Big Sing, in its fifth year, brings together all ages (this year 11 to 82 years old) sharing culture, building community, and connecting with each other through song.
Already established songsters, the desert women performed their inspiring repertoire in local Pitjantjatjara and Arrernte languages - a taste of songs to be performed at a festival of choirs in Germany this year when they spend one month touring Europe on their Boomerang Tour.
The Wauchope songsters have made contributions to help pay the cost of the desert women's tour - if you would like to donate to help make this possible, please contact Susan Ashton, who is coordinating the local collection.
