There was also some very entertaining footy played for early in the season. The day started with the 2014 premiers, ladies league tag. There are a lot of new faces and it is quite a young team of girls.
Not that inexperience showed with the girls putting on a platter of points winning the game 52-0.
Special mention goes to Larissa Ward who had her hand in everything from defusing high bombs to try saving tags and even scoring what could be in the running for try of the year, Ward was easily best on park.
The under 18s have also shown a lot of talent early in the year with a strong group of boys showing up to play this year.
With a new coach and some new players filling key positions the season is looking bright already for the young guns.
As the drizzly rain played its part in a sloppy game the young Blues were able to overcome their opponents 18-6.
New front rower Ray Mitchell had a strong game with his size boosting the Blues pack.
The Blues reserve grade unfortunately lost in a hard fought battle. Led by new player/coach Mick McInnes the second grade were far from a disappointment and showed very promising signs as the virtually new side held their own for most of the match and were still a chance at winning right up to the final minute.
New recruit Jake Flannagan had a strong match from dummy half along with new fullback Blake Heart.
First Grade had success on the weekend with the Justin Laurie coached side dominating for 90 percent of the game.
The Blues were all over the Tigers in defence but their attack was a little off as they failed to complete sets with drop ball coming from both teams.
The Blues went to the half time break ahead 10-6. New centre Jed Semour entertained the crowd with some freakish foot work to score the Blues first try with Mat Bird also crossing the line in the first half.
Coming out after half time the Blues continued to dominate with tries to Nick McCabe and a second to Seymour.
The last 10 minutes were the Blues worst conceding three unanswered tries and giving the game a score line which didn’t reflect the rest of the game.
The final score Wauchope 26 Wingham 16. The Blues will now go on the road for two weeks with their next home game against Old Bar.
