Even after a nine years term in detention it is still proposed to execute these two men.
In most civilised countries the death penalty does no longer exist.
But, this is the law as it stands in Indonesia today.
I have visited that country in years gone past, and have some understanding of this country.
There are two classes of people, the rich and the poor, and even the poor exploit those poorer than themselves. The rich exploit everyone where they can.
Their National Government also exploit who and what and where they can.
Talk about Raffetty's Rules, the word takes on a complete new meaning in this country of Indonesia.
Their president and members of his government could not give a damn about our two Australian citizens, and death in that country means nothing.
In fact I would think that they are enjoying the world publicity they are getting.
It will be interesting to see just what action our Federal Government would be prepared to take if, and I say again, If these two Australian citizens are executed.
In his time as Prime Minister, Paul Keating made peace with Indonesia, and I believe it was because he and the government of the time feared that country as a threat to our national security.
In the years since our country Australia had donated billions of our dollars in aid to Indonesia.
We owe them nothing, but by hell they owe us a lot.
I would hope that if our two citizens were executed, that our National Government would take immediate action and ban all future aid to that country, and also impose strict trade sanctions, and immigration from Indonesia.
I have nothing against the people general in the population of Indonesia, but by hell I do against their President and his Government My belief is that our Government should take action, and propose that this country ban all aid and trade with Indonesia, and put a complete ban of their citizens, and students entering our country as tourists and immigrants.
