THE Indonesian greeting 'Selamat Pagi' has been ringing across the hallways and playgrounds at Hastings Public School (HPS) in the past week.

Students and teachers have welcomed two teachers from a Sumatera public school as part of a unique sister school program funded by the Indonesian and Austalian governments.
Principal Grant Heaton credits the success of the initiative to teachers Erin Barker and Mel Bourne, who will enjoy a two-week reciprocal visit to the North Sumatran school in the September school holidays.
"Indonesian is our chosen language at Hastings Public School and there's nothing better for students than to learn about the country and their language from people proficient in the language," he said.
"When Mel and Erin return from their visit I'm sure their learnings will have many flow-on benefits as well."
During Lince Nainagolam and Theresia Sianapur's two week visit they have also enjoyed staying with Mrs Barker's family and visiting tourist attractions such as Cassegrain Winery, South West Rocks, Flynns Beach and Billabong Koala Wildlife Park.
Translater, and parent of a HPS kindergarten student, Ika Mitchell said Lince and Theresia have "loved" their Aussie adventure.
"They have been in awe of the size of our classrooms, resources, playgrounds and facilities," Mrs Mitchell said.
Mrs Barker said students have blossomed since the Indonesian teachers' arrival, learning cultural dances, practicing their times table in Bahasa and polishing their language skills with flash cards.
"They've been asking lots of questions and are really eager to learn from Lince and Theresia," she said.
Mrs Bourne agreed that students "have really embraced the language".
"It's great to see them using sentences and repeating whole lines.
"They've also enjoyed learning about the country and the Indonesian education sytem," she said.
The Indonesian Bridge Program is a first for the Hastings/Camden Haven region.
In addition to reciprocal school visits the four teaches will attend personal development courses in Sydney, collaboratively plan teaching programs for their school and become sister schools by teaching via ICT lessons and connected classrooms.
