The Wauchope bonsai group's next meeting is on Saturday, February 14 from 10 am to early afternoon. The group meets in the Community Arts Hall, Oxley Lane in Wauchope.
The meeting will commence with a discussion of the display trees, followed by a demonstration about a bonsai topic. The remainder of the meeting is workshop time for members to work on their own trees.
Visitors are welcome to the meetings. Beginners are encouraged to bring along one of their trees and one of the experienced members will help you with it.
The group is an excellent way to learn how to create your own bonsai, or to care for the one (s) you already have.
Jobs to do this month are:
- Keep trimming any vigorous growth on your trees, especially on warm weather lovers like figs
- As the cooler weather approaches swap to a lower nitrogen fertiliser to strengthen the tree for winter and to encourage spring flowering.
- After wet spells, don't forget to get back in the habit of checking how moist your trees are and water as necessary. It only takes one afternoon scorcher to turn your tiny treasure to tiny firewood.
