The incident happened about 12.30pm on the busy Gordon Street crossing between Hollingworth and Gore streets.
Ambulance officers had parked in the street and took 15 minutes to assess and ready the 71-year-old woman for transport.
A NSW Ambulance spokeswoman said the pedestrian had no obvious injuries and was taken to Port Macquarie Base Hospital in a stable condition.
Other motorists and pedestrians directed traffic, which had slowed to single lanes in either direction, until police arrived at 12.45pm.
Traffic flow restored to normal by 12.50pm.
