The fundraising ball for a clubhouse at Oxley Oval is on November 15 at the Westport Club, and tickets are on sale now.
The oval is in such need of a clubhouse that Hastings River District Cricket Association president Shane Williams has described it as "embarrassing."
After much discussion and planning both the HRDCA and the Hastings Valley Vikings are ready for a clubhouse to be erected at the famous Port Macquarie ground.
The ball will get under way at 7pm. Much-needed funds can then be raised.
Williams wants to get as many sporting codes as possible involved.
"Hopefully we can attract members from all different sporting codes as this is a major infrastructure for all of Port Macquarie," he said
"Once this clubhouse is built it will be used by all of the sporting community and hopefully we will be able to reform the Hastings Sporting Council which was abolished about six years ago." The plans for the new structure will be unveiled and discussed on the night with a presentation on what the building will look like and the story behind what has been done so far.
"The current facilities at Oxley Oval are very outdated and don't meet current needs or future needs," Williams said. "The change rooms are far too small for any teams to use or to get changed in and they are used reluctantly as toilets only.
"It's pretty embarrassing and an obstacle where if we want carnivals or representative teams in town we can't use Oxley Oval."
If the clubhouse is to be given the go ahead it will be used by the HRDCA and the Vikings.
Not only will it give both teams a change room for matches but it gives a host of sporting clubs a location to hold meetings, after game functions, canteen facilities and a secure place to store gear.
"We'd also love to get some lights which would see the introduction of night time T20 cricket and would allow Vikings being able to train at their own home ground," Williams said.
Anyone wanting to attend the ball can contact Shane Williams on 0412 558 117 or purchase tickets at the Westport Club.
