The black out was reported to Essential Energy at 12.41pm.
It has been reported power lines are down in Owen Street at the Port City Bowling Club and Essential Energy crews are investigating.
The Bureau of Meterology has issued a strong wind warning for our coast.
Essential Energy spokesman Mike Healey said the cause of the snapped power line in Owen Street is as yet unknown, apart from the very high winds being experienced.
He said repair crews were on the scene shortly after the report came in at 12.41pm, restoring power to the majority of customers by 1.15pm.
"The remaining 180 customers should be fully restored within half an hour (by 3pm)," he said.
