Six years ago, Tacking Point students became the first school group to tread the boards of the new entertainment and arts facility as a part of the annual CAPA showcase, providing the school the inspiration and opportunity to further expand on its already thriving music and dance programs.
Concert of Excellence coordinator Elynne Toft said the CAPA program is run across all classes from kindergarten to year six after then principal Terry Robinson, deputy principal Glenn Pleasance and Robyn Ryan OAM collaborated to provide a vehicle for the school to highlight students' talent in the areas of dance and music.
The first concert of Excellence was held at Panthers in 2004 before moving to the Glasshouse stage in 2009.
"Tacking Point Public School was the first school and one of the very early community groups to utilise this fantastic facility, " Mrs Toft said.
"This venue became the experience of a lifetime for the students who performed in the Concert of Excellence that year and each year since.
"The opportunity for all the CAPA groups to showcase their talent and to give their best performance in this world class venue is certainly something special. The Glasshouse stage always brings out the best in every performer and the audience is left feeling extremely proud of everyone involved."
Tacking Point commences its CAPA classes in February and the groups require a high level of commitment from the students as they hone their skills in preparation for eisteddfods, festivals and competition, Mrs Toft said.
"This showcase of talent is a combined effort with our highly supportive parents and community members, who are undoubtedly the support network for our students and their achievements," Mrs Toft said.
"Their early rehearsals before school, practice at home, costumes and instrument hire are all part of the parental support."
Since opening, the Glasshouse has become home to many school groups who utilise the facility to provide students with an authentic stage experience as a part of their learning.
Acting Glasshouse venue manager Pam Milne said events like the Concert of Excellence allow students to explore their creativity in a first-class facility.
