FORMER Wauchope Public School student Angus Gill returned to his roots last week to rehearse for a national school event that will see half a million students sing a tune he co-wrote with musical director to the stars John Foreman.
The talented 16-year-old's songwriting prowess will be in the spotlight on October 30 when students from 2100 schools simultaneously sing 'Paint you a song' as part of 'Music: Count Us In'.
Local schools involved include St Columba Anglican School, Wauchope Public School, Laurieton Public School and Hastings Public School.
Angus said he had had the tune for 'Paint you a song' "humming in my head for years, so it was a really cool that they used the title, chorus and whole concept of the song I submitted".
The seven-way collaboration involved four other high school students and superstar mentors Harry Angus, from The Cat Empire and musical director to the stars John Foreman.
"We spent a day in Sydney pulling lyrics together and finalising the song for this year's event.
"When we got together we played all the submissions and then decided what we liked about each.
"I think my friends were the most excited, because I don't have much knowledge about the world of pop. Im more interested in country music," Angus joked.
