Saturday, September 13, saw the hockey field turn red and blue in support for the club as the teams began their matches.
C grade ladies were first up and played a brilliant game in the heat, and despite a nil-all score at half-time and getting the first goal in, Port City tied it up, sending the game into over-time. Port City were then lucky/skilled enough to score about three minutes in, finishing a great game.
C grade men then took up the mantle and went at it against Thunder. They also scored first, but only five minutes later Thunder struck back, levelling the score line going into the half-time break. Despite everyone's best efforts that is where the score stayed throughout the second half and 10 further minutes of extra time.
The boys were quite content with the joint premiership, considering that it took them five games at the start of the season before their first win.
B grade ladies saw Wauchope take on their arch rivals Kempsey. A hard game was expected and a hard game ensued.
Despite a relentless attack from Wauchope the score remained 0-0 until, with 10 minutes to go, Wauchope snuck a goal in, sparking wild celebrations around the ground.
The defence then had to turn up the heat and weather the Kempsey counter-attack to keep the scoreline positive, finishing 1-0.
Last, but not to be outdone was B grade men, again playing Thunder.
Strong out of the blocks, Wauchope put in two goals before the game was 10 minutes in. Again the defence was tested hard, and a solid push saw Thunder get one in. Not to be outdone, Wauchope got one more before half time, bringing it to 3-1.
In the second half Wauchope got in the first goal and the game tempo picked up considerably and the last 12 minutes saw Wauchope on their heels, holding out the Thunder attack until, with four minutes to go, Thunder got in, bringing the score to 4-2, where it stayed to the finish of the game.
Wauchope Hockey Club would like to thank all those who supported them through the season and on the day, and our sponsors Wauchope RSL and Settlers Inn.
