As a curtain raiser, Manning Baseball brought over a team to play a combined team of Giant Buzzards.A very entertaining game ensued.
The game of the day saw minor premiers, Pirates, play Spartans. The game began at a tense pace with a low run rate with some tight pitching and fielding.
Spartans commanded the lead with a 3-1 scoreline until the bottom of the fourth innings.
Pirates launched into a dig featuring big hits and seven runs scored. Spartans failed to add any further runs.
The Pirates scored three more to take the game and premiership by 11 runs to 3. Pitching for Spartans Mark Gallaher had three innings, six hits, one walk and four strikeouts.
Paul Matheson, one inning, six hits and three walks. Phill Goldspink one for one strikeout.
Pirates pitcher Gavin Carney pitched six innings, five hits, three walks and two strikeouts.
Next event on the Hastings Baseball calendar will see two Hastings teams travelling up to Kempsey next weekend to take part in Macleay Baseball friendship games.
The association presentation will be held at The Westport Club on September 27.
Registrations are being taken for the summer competition set to begin October 19.
