Hawkins' killer throw left her opponents dazzled and unlocked wild scenes of celebration similar to that witnessed at the Commonwealth Games' opening ceremony in Glasgow.
"As well as my work on reception, years of cleaning up and heavy lifting have given me the power in my throwing arm and the belief that I can climb any mountain," Hawkins beamed whilst signing autographs for local school students.
The competition dark horse, Nicholas Ambrose, with an aerodynamic flame designed plane, said he'll be back next year after being named runner up.
"Hawkins can have her moment of glory, but my team of technicians are working on a sleeker build and we'll welcome any interest from potential sponsors out there in the business community," Ambrose grumbled.
The form guide on other throwers went as follows:
Ruth Lewis: Poor technique, unused to Australian conditions, and still reeling from the last Ashes result ("At least I still came away with a prize" she retorted to organisers as she scarpered up the stairs.
Janine Buesnel: Late entry, not enough prep time and back to back throws proved to be too energy sapping ("I'm the boss and next year I'll be making the rules," she warned)
Kate Dwyer (Courier ring-in): Fantastic plane design thanks to son Jim but failed to take into account the roof as it got in the way on both throws ("Is this all you guys do at Port News, really?")
Nigel McNeil: Nigel was strangely absent on the day despite making a plane that was well used (ASADA will be monitoring his absence).
Bronwyn Herden: Her heart wasn't in it, last seen putting in a classified for paper plane makers to help with next year's event.
Lynelle Frew: Unluckily caught an updraft on both throws. Happy to laugh off the failure and said: "It could be worse - I could play for GWS or the Cronulla Sharks?"
Vickii Byram: Loves the big stage but this just wan't her year. Too much indecision on plane design - needs to pick a concept early next year and stick with that through basic training in the lead-up.
